Asthma
Fifteen million people in the United States have asthma. Although asthma affects people of all ages, it often starts in childhood and is more common in children than adults. There is no cure for asthma, so treatment should be aimed at the relief of symptoms and the prevention of attacks.
Regular appointments with a qualified healthcare provider that specializes in asthma are warranted and highly recommended to ensure optimal control of your asthma. Together, you and your doctor should decide what your treatment goals are and what you need to do to control your asthma.
Asthma is more of an inflammatory condition rather than a strict respiratory condition. It is a reversible airway disease caused by the spasms of the small airways of the lungs. In an asthma attack, muscles around the airways tighten up, making the airway openings narrower so less air can flow through. Inflammation (swelling in the airways) and mucous production increase which further add to the narrowing of the airways. Air becomes trapped in these small airways making breathing difficult. Repeated asthma attacks can lead to scarring and structural changes to the lining of the airway. Asthma can eventually damage the airway permanently, making it more reactive, more prone to inflammation and less functional overall. Each asthma attack is unique. Some will be worse than others but all asthma attacks should be taken seriously. You can die from a serious asthma attack when the airways close so much that oxygen is unable to get to vital organs.
Asthmatics have extra sensitive airways. Asthma attacks are most often triggered by an allergic reaction from exposure to various stimuli, such as chemicals, animal dander, certain foods, and pollens and from exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke. Attacks may also result from emotional upset, exercise and excitement. Common symptoms of asthma include coughing (often worse at night or early in the morning), wheezing (a whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe), shortness of breath, shallow breathing (unable to take a good, deep breath) and a feeling of chest tightness.
There are two main types of medicines prescribed by a doctor for asthma; those that provide quick relief and those that provide long-term control. Quick relief medicines give rapid, short-term relief. The effects of these medicines are felt within minutes. Long-term control medicines are taken every day, over long periods of time, to control chronic symptoms and prevent asthma attacks. The full effects of these medicines are felt after taking them for several weeks. People with persistent asthma usually require long-term control medicines.
In addition to the traditional approaches to asthma, dietary and lifestyle changes have also shown to be helpful. While a healthy lifestyle may not entirely prevent you from having problems with asthma, it can provide you with better overall health and, perhaps, limit asthma attacks. Avoiding things that bring on your asthma symptoms or make symptoms worse. Doing so can reduce the amount of medicine you need to control your asthma. Lifestyle and dietary changes can often improve symptoms. This does not mean that asthmatics taking medications can discontinue them. Always consult with your healthcare provider before you make changes to your treatment plan.
The following are several dietary and lifestyle changes that may help with your asthma.
Change your diet. An easy rule of thumb is to choose the most “colorful” foods. Foods rich in color, like ripe tomatoes and bright green vegetables, are always a better choice.
Optimize your environment. Change indoor air conditioning and heating filters often to optimize air quality. To control dust mites, wash your sheets, blankets, pillows, and stuffed toys weekly in hot water. You can get special dust proof covers for your mattress and pillows. Opt for wood or tile floors instead of carpet. Carpets hold dust, dirt and potential allergens that could lead to an asthma attack.
Stop smoking. If you smoke, quit! Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death in the United States. Each year more than 400,000 people will die of diseases caused by smoking and other forms of tobacco use—that's about 20% of all deaths in the United States. The medical benefits of quitting are substantial.
Exercise. Just adding a little exercise to your daily routine can reduce your risk of developing disease. Ideally, you should exercise three to five times a week for 20-50 minutes within your target heart rate. Resistance training, or weight lifting, is an important component of a good fitness program because it increases your strength, leads to decreased body fat and helps improve overall health. Exercise improves your tolerance to stress, improves the health of the heart and lungs and increases energy levels. Be sure to set yourself up for exercise success by choosing an activity that you enjoy and that fits into your schedule.
Reduce Stress. Experiences of increased mental and physical stress are often associated with a worsening of asthma symptoms. Decreasing stress is easier said than done. However, reducing stress is a must. Try taking 10 minutes a day to meditate. Close your eyes, clear your mind and focus on your breathing. Find a local stress reduction class to find what works for you. Laugh out loud! This is an immediate stress reducer.
Asma-X5
Asthma can be classified as a reversible airway disease caused by the spasms of the small airways of the lungs. These spasms, coupled with an increase in mucous production, cause air to be trapped in these small airways making breathing difficult.
There is no cure for Asthma so treatment should be aimed at relief of symptoms and prevention of attacks.
Asthma-X5 is an adaptogenic formula containing natural ingredients to help prevent and relieve the symptoms of Asthma. Adaptogens function in the body to improve our “adaptability” by helping the body deal with the stress and stressors that cause our bodies to react in the form of an asthmatic attack. “Stressors” refers to exposure to those physical and emotional stimuli that cause an asthma attack. Adaptogens appear to increase our body's ability to deal with the stressors that lead to a full asthmatic reaction through support of adrenal and possibly pituitary gland function. By helping the body to adapt around a problem, this will enable it to avoid reaching the point of collapse that forces an asthmatic reaction. Asthma-X5 may help prevent the body from reaching the breaking point and effectively stop the chain of events that leads to an asthma attack.
Enzyme Blend OL-767
Digestion is accomplished through the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food into smaller and smaller molecules to be absorbed by the body for a variety of functions. This involves exposure to acidic pH conditions in the stomach followed by the exposure to alkaline intestinal fluids in the gastrointestinal tract. Various enzymes participate throughout the digestion process over a wide range of pH. Finally, we are able to absorb nutrition from food.
Olympian Labs has formulated a multi-enzyme blend that assists in the digestion of food and may improve the assimilation of nutrients. This formulation is designed to be effective over a wide range of pH (3.0-9.0), thus working continuously throughout the pH variations in the digestive gastrointestinal tract.
LiveBac®
A probiotic is defined as a live microbial product which is beneficial to the host by contributing positive bacteria to the micro-flora of the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotic contain naturally occurring, beneficial lactic acid bacteria that are present in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy human beings and animals. These bacteria participate in a variety of positive, health promoting activities in human physiology. Probiotics are regarded as \"friendly Bacteria\" that inhabit the intestinal tract and contribute to good health by improving nutrition and protecting against disease. Some of the positive attributes are:
– Enhanced digestive function. – Maintenance of microbial balance. – Protection against pathogenic bacteria. – Production of necessary vitamins and growth factors. – Enhanced immune response.
Each tablet contains 1 billion viable colony-forming friendly organisms. This formulation is stable at room temperature and does not need refrigeration.
Tocomin® Tocotrienol Vitamin E Complete
Vitamin E is one of the most powerful antioxidants available. The most commonly found vitamin E supplement is d-alpha tocopherol, which in itself is excellent in its antioxidant and heart support properties. However, d-alpha tocopherol is only one of the eight isomers found in the entire vitamin E complex. The most complete form of vitamin E includes four tocopherol isomers (d-alpha, d-beta, d-gamma, and d-delta) as well as four tocotrienols isomers (d-alpha, d-beta, d-gamma, and d-delta).
The Olympian Labs research and development team has created the market's best formulation for a full spectrum vitamin E supplement that includes all eight of these essential isomers. Olympian Labs' Tocomin® Tocotrienol Vitamin E Complete softgels deliver high levels of tocopherols and tocotrienols that protect the cardiovascular system by maintaining a healthy antioxidant status.
Tocomin® is a natural phyto-tocotrienol/tocopherol complex that is naturally extracted and concentrated from the fruits of palm tree through a mild patented process, maintaining the natural ratios of the tocotrienols and tocopherols. Other naturally occurring nutrients within the palm fruit extraction include phyto-carotenoids, CoQ10, phytosterols, and squalene. The majority of the published health benefits associated with tocotrienols have been based on studies using palm phyto-tocotrienols.
With the addition of the full spectrum of mixed tocopherols, the levels of the d-alpha and d-gamma tocopherols have been increased significantly. D-alpha tocopherol is the “known” vitamin E in the industry, and increased levels of d-gamma tocopherol, when combined with the mixed tocotrienols, have been shown to enhance the overall antioxidant status of the supplement.
